Your future role within QRT
- Supply-Side Research
◦ Analyse global mining supply drivers and cost curves for nickel/cobalt/lithium.
◦ Analyze refining capacity and supply-demand dynamics across the entire industrial chain.
◦ Assess the impact of geopolitical factors, environmental policies and mining regulations on supply elasticity.
- Demand-Side Research
◦ Study the impact of NEV penetration rates and battery technology trends on metal demand. Conduct analysis of battery cost models and substitution sensitivity.
◦ Perform bottom-up analysis of demand growth in downstream sectors (energy storage batteries, consumer electronics, EV power batteries).
◦ Analyze the entire battery industrial chain, covering battery cells, cathode materials, and precursor materials, including supply-demand dynamics and global trade flows.
◦ Monitor policy drivers and their impact on demand and trade flows.
- Market Dynamics Tracking
◦ Continuously monitor metal price fluctuations, inventory cycles, and derivative market sentiment across COMEX/LME/SHFE/GFE.
◦ Analyze pricing logic and premium factors for key intermediate products
◦ Identify trading opportunities arising from supply-demand mismatches, technological breakthroughs, or unexpected events.
- Investment Strategy Support
◦ Build commodity supply-demand balance sheets and related models in collaboration with technical teams.
◦ Design medium- to long-term market trading strategies.
◦ Assist quantitative researchers in developing quantitative trading models.
Your present skillset
- Education: Bachelor or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of commodity research experience, preferably in lithium/nickel/cobalt industrial chains. Familiarity with the new energy industry chain (battery manufacturers, OEMs, material suppliers) is advantageous.
- Core Skills: Proficiency in supply-demand analysis, cost curve modelling. Coding/Python skills are not mandatory but would be an advantage. Deep understanding of lithium markets would be a preference (e.g., spodumene vs. brine lithium extraction costs, lithium salt pricing mechanisms).
- Soft Skills: Can verbally communicate and read/write in English. Cross-cultural communication skills.
