Senior Project Manager / Senior Architect / Architect / Junior Architect

As BIG Shanghai continues to grow and take on more exciting projects, we are currently hiring for 4 key positions:
– A Senior Project Manager with at least 8 years of experience in project management
– A Senior Architect with at least 7 years of experience in architectural design

• An Architect with at least 3-7 years of experience in architectural design
• A Junior Architect with at least 1-3 years of experience in architectural design

Both roles require strong bilingual communication skills in Mandarin and English and the ability to manage and deliver design projects from concept through construction documentation.
You will work closely with Partners, Project Architects, and Managers throughout all project phases—leading or assisting in design development, documentation, team coordination, and construction-phase collaboration.

Senior Project Manager – Responsibilities

• Lead the management of small- to large-scale and complex projects across all stages
• Coordinate project schedules, deliverables, and client communication
• Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery through close collaboration with the design team
• Oversee the technical execution of all project stages, including detailing, construction, and regulatory compliance
• Engage with clients to facilitate discussions and drive solutions
• Report on design progress, operations, risk, and contract matters to Partners and the China Director
• Develop strategic timelines and work plans for design implementation
• Proactively assess and manage project risks
• Provide technical and constructability guidance, mentoring team members as needed
• Support the team in developing compelling creative design proposals
• Foster effective communication among clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities
• Offer technical direction and innovative solutions to resolve complex challenges

You should have

• A professional degree in architecture
• Minimum 8 years of experience in a project management role
• Experience with large, complex projects in China
• Familiarity with local building codes and project execution processes in China
• Fluency in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work well under pressure
• Proactive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility
• Strong team spirit, with an open and collaborative mindset
• Experience with completed and published built work is preferred
• Prior work experience at international design offices or in cross-border collaboration is a plus

Senior Architect – Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with design partners throughout all project stages
• Work with Project Architects or Managers to lead or support design development
• Manage junior designers and modelers, overseeing daily design tasks
• Produce complete drawing sets from concept through construction documentation
• Maintain and develop high-quality 3D models to support iterative design
• Demonstrate strong detailing skills and provide innovative, buildable design solutions
• Prepare diagrams, drawings, and presentation materials aligned with BIG standards
• Exhibit strong design sensibility and aesthetic judgment
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, contractors, and authorities to ensure design objectives are met
• Deliver project documents on time and to a high standard under the direction of Partners or team leads

You should have

• A professional degree in architecture
• Minimum 7 years of experience across all phases of architectural design
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite; knowledge of Grasshopper and V-Ray/Enscape is a plus
• Strong familiarity with building materials, regulations, approval processes, and construction methods
• Efficient, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks under deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality documentation
• Fluency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
• Proactive, responsible, and a collaborative team player
• Experience with completed and published built work is preferred
• Prior experience in international offices or cross-border design projects is a plus

Architect – Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the design team to develop and iterate on design concepts
• Prepare, update, and refine drawings and models across project stages
• Demonstrate strong design and graphic communication skills
• Resolve technical and design challenges with creative thinking
• Contribute to construction documentation and detailing
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, and authorities throughout the design process
• Manage time and resources effectively under deadlines
• Be proactive, responsive to team needs, and open to feedback
• Show strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills
• Embrace new tools and iterative workflows

You should have

• A professional degree in architecture
• 3–7 years of architectural experience
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite; knowledge of Grasshopper and V-Ray/Enscape is a plus
• Familiarity with construction techniques, approval processes, and building materials
• Strong time management and task coordination skills
• A high standard for design clarity, detail, and accuracy
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
• A proactive, collaborative, and open mindset
• Experience in built and published projects is a plus
• International work or internship experience is preferred

Junior Architect – Responsibilities

• Support the design team in developing and refining concepts
• Assist in drafting and updating drawings and models
• Participate in early-stage design and design development
• Contribute to both physical and digital model making
• Engage actively in team discussions and follow direction from project leads
• Manage tasks and time effectively to meet deadlines
• Work flexibly within fast-paced project environments

You should have

• A professional degree in architecture
• 1–3 years of architectural experience
• Proficiency in Rhino, Adobe Suite, V-Ray/Enscape; Revit skills are a plus
• Basic understanding of materials, codes, and construction methods, with eagerness to learn
• Ability to work efficiently under guidance and manage time well
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to improve accuracy through practice
• Basic proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
• A proactive, responsible, and team-oriented attitude
• Experience participating in complete project phases is a plus
• International internship or collaboration experience is preferred
