Join our Corporate IP Group! You will work at the interface between Research & Development and external patent attorneys while taking care of IP issues with a focus on patents and designs in the dental implant area of the Straumann Group. You will be part of an international team of qualified patent attorneys responsible for the IP management of the Straumann Group.
Key Responsibilities
Actively interfacing with the Research & Development teams within the Straumann Group (in particular at the Straumann China Campus) by identifying patentable project results as well as potential conflicts with third party rights the assigned technical field.
Taking ownership for prosecution of a global patent and design portfolio in the assigned area of dental implantology which includes creation, prosecution, maintenance and securing of IP filings in collaboration with external attorneys.
Tasks
- Evaluating invention disclosures as well as initiating drafting and filing the respective patent applications
- Taking care of the growing IP portfolio regarding drafting, filing, prosecuting and defending the IP rights in the different countries
- Cooperation with external patent attorneys in China and abroad
- Monitoring the IP landscape by analyzing competitors and other third-party rights as well as valuation of third-party patent portfolios
- Providing patent support for selected R&D and M&A projects
- Advising on the preparation and evaluation of patent searches
- Analyzing intellectual property risks and preparation of patent opinions for research projects (freedom to operate)
- Maintaining awareness about the necessity of patent applications and promoting a patent culture
- Supporting compliance with IP processes within the organization as well as the training of employees within the framework of the IP Academy to enhance awareness of IP matters
- Supporting the IP team regarding patent litigation and other IP related litigation in China
Profile
- Solid understanding of technology in combination with the ability to communicate with different teams, manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Bachelor’s degree or above in a science or engineering discipline is required, preferably in the field of electric engineering understanding mechanical as well as digital aspects of modern dentistry
- Chinese Patent Bar qualification is required, Legal Bar qualification is a plus
- At least 2 years of professional IP experience in an in-house IP function and/or IP firm
- Experience with innovation harvesting and patent assessment on patent infringement
- Very good knowledge of Chinese and English
- Working or study experience outside China, preferably in Europe, is a plus
- Enjoying working in interdisciplinary collaboration with developers, product managers, general management and external attorneys
- Open communication skills and willingness to integrate into a multinational team
