The Role of Director of Engineering
Provides a high level of property maintenance knowledge. Position has overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection. Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation. Develops and implements strategies that will deliver products and services, which meet or exceed the needs and expectations of guests and employees while maximizing the financial performance. Responsible for maintaining standards and regulatory requirements. Leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.
Key Functions
Fully oversee the daily operations and management of the hotel's engineering department to ensure all facilities and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans, coordinate equipment inspections, maintenance, and upgrades.
Supervise the hotel's energy management, optimize energy consumption metrics, and reduce operating costs.
Responsible for creating plans, budget control, and quality supervision of major engineering projects.
Establish a comprehensive emergency response system to quickly address and resolve unexpected equipment failures.
Manage the engineering team, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and talent development.
Coordinate with relevant government departments to ensure all engineering works meet compliance standards and pass inspections.
Participate in the annual hotel budget planning process and strictly control departmental expenditures.
Education and Experience
3-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 4 years' experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.
Minimum 10 to 15 years’ relevant working experience in a 300 to 400 room-size luxury hotel, with at least 3 years in a similar capacity in China.
Proficient in the operation principles of core hotel systems, such as HVAC, high voltage, low voltage, plumbing, and fire safety.
Certified as a Registered Constructor/Engineer or holder of relevant hotel engineering management certifications is preferred.
Strong cost control awareness and data analysis skills.
Excellent team leadership and cross-departmental coordination skills.
Ability to read technical documents and blueprints in English fluently.
Willingness to adapt to a 24-hour emergency response work schedule.
Proactive, well-organized, detail-minded with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can work independently under pressure.
Excellent command of English, Chinese and Cantonese would be a plus, and hands-on
