Sr Advanced Chemical Engineer of Oleflex Technology is also called Technical Expert (TE) in China Olefins
Technology Center(COTC), works closely with their counterparts in Research, Development, Engineering, Equipment,
Regional Services, Business and Field Services to deliver new technology and transfer knowledge to customers' UOPlicensed
or UOP-designed units that operate optimally, profitably, and safely, enhance UOP competitiveness, secure
UOP business to achieve sustainable growth. To do so, TE will have regular interaction with external customers and
with UOP personnel involved in technology delivery and business support. This position will be in the COTC, an exciting
new function to provide enhanced services to key Olefins customers.
The TE position for Olefins Technologies provides technical support for a range of UOP technologies such as Oleflex,
SHP, KLP, PRU and MTBE. TE monitors the operation of UOP processes, equipment, catalysts, and adsorbents by
analyzing plant data. Guidance on operating conditions and strategies is provided to support customers as they
optimize their units for safe and economical operation. TE also provides startup, revamp, yield estimation, develop
reload technical proposals for customers, and provide onsite support for customer turnaround planning and execution.
The interaction with other UOP departments provides excellent exposure as well as providing knowledge of
accountabilities in other areas. TE is an excellent career position with opportunities to advance to higher levels as
well as a career path to other departments, e.g. Sales, Regional Service and Engineering.
- Review, analyze and provide feedback on commercial unit operating data, UOP catalyst and other commercial
- Provide both office-based and on-site troubleshooting assistance to commercial units.
- Serve as the focal point for office-based support of existing units in operation, new units and revamped unit startups
- Support the deployment of data connection/tag mapping, PM, PTA and unit monitoring/data review through Prosight.
- Do the yield estimation calculation, draft the technical proposal of reload and negotiate with customers and
- Participate in customer meetings to discuss the technical proposal, technical solution and reports.
- Conduct on-site commercial unit audits. Mentor and guide FOS assigned on projects.
- Keep current with customer needs for technologies supported, communicate changes, and incorporate relevant
- Keep smooth communication with customer to understand their needs and unit/catalyst status, and take quick
- Participate in R&D technology improvement projects. Support business for UOP NPI extension, which includes new
- Participate in Engineering review meetings for new units and revamps including Design Basis, PFD, PID, MFD, Plot
- Prepare and update general operating manuals, process technology manuals, and training materials and present
- Champion changes & improvements in technologies supported via innovation.
- As opportunities arise, author MOIs for processes within your area of responsibility.
- Become Six Sigma Green Belt certified and apply tools and techniques to improvement projects.
- Help prepare material for and participate in, Technical Symposia and Sales Meetings.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS in Chemical Engineering is required. Master in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
- 7+ years’ experience, including a minimum of 5 years of UOP Technical Service, UOP TSE, UOP Engineering or
- English ability in both written and spoken skills.
- Prior experience in Oleflex technology.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills; Effective problem-solving skills; Good presentation skills; MS
concurrently; Basic knowledge of one or more of the technologies listed above including their equipment and
operations.
- Average level of travel of 30% is typically required to both domestic. Much of this travel can be scheduled and
columns, tanks, and piping at commercial sites is sometimes part of the job.
