The Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer will support project engineering by taking new products from an engineering design phase and into mass production. The position entails a high level of coordination with the U.S. Engineering department and with InVue’s China-based contract manufacturers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and drive multiple new product development (manufacturing development / tooling phases) projects in order to achieve successful timings, qualities, functions and manufacturing readiness. Also manage sustaining product improvement projects to ensure operational excellence in supporting product demand as well as customer delivery performance.
- On the development phase - Review project engineering activities in order to correct and/or improve cost, manufacturability, reliability, and real world applications, during design and prior to tooling kick-off.
- Work closely during the tool making stage to ensure high confidence level of T0/T1 shots. Also ensure that manufacturing consistency can be and is achieved.
- Create, review and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings.
- Participate in design reviews and DFMEA in order to ensure that products are designed for the most suitable manufacturing processes of our suppliers and to meet the requirements defined for the product. Also ensuring EE parts in the product design are accommodated within the dimensional requirements with the mechanical parts.
- Work closely with the Operations Team during the RFQ process to ensure accurate feedbacks are given and provided from InVue to suppliers and vice versa to ensure good quote and DFM are being reviewed and achieved.
- Need to collaborate closely on the initiative of new component sourcing as well as new process development in ensure capability of production is available.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in order to review and test tooled samples and to recommend necessary changes in minimum amount of tooling iterations.
- Review tooling drawings, project samples, assemblies, and specifications for dimensional accuracy, reliability, manufacturability, project intent, and in order to generate recommendations for correction and improvements.
- Candidate needs to work closely with other functional teams to drive continuous improvement on any specific project in order to achieve company strategic goals and objectives, with the efficient use of resources.
- Drive, support and manage ECR changes to ensure timely execution of change.
- Lead design and assembly projects outsourced to China suppliers.
- Frequent interactive and travel time to suppliers are required. Occasional international travel would be needed.
- Required to participate in evening calls during any progress of a project to provide and obtain project detail status and implement solutions.
- Other duties as required by management – commitment to the success of others.
QUALIFCATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required, ideally within Mechanical Engineer or Materials.
- Seven or more years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
- Plastics injection molding/tooling experience must be advanced.
- Metal fabrication experience is a plus.
- Project management experience must exceed two years.
- Interfacing with OEM and ODM suppliers experience must exceed two years.
- Solid molding software proficient, ideally with Pro/Engineer or SolidWorks.
- New product development tollgate process experience.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) with an emphasis on using Microsoft Project to manage schedules.
- PDM or PLM systems experience.
- Excellent written and spoken Mandarin Chinese language skills are a must.
- Good written and spoken English language skills would be preferred.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Proven success within fast paced environment, adaptable and flexible.
- Strong sense of urgency and awareness, as well as results oriented.
- Ability to deliver results on multiple, concurrent projects.
- Self-motivated person, and be able to work independently with minimum direct supervision, but also a team player.
- Mechanical manufacturing processes experience, especially with process improvements, fixturing, and tooling.
- Strong work ethic driving behavior to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Ability to travel in country and outside of country as required.
- Able to perform physical lifting and other tasks required by the role.
