About the Role:

The role is pivotal in driving comprehensive research and analysis within the China crude and refining sector, delivering insightful report and analysis, and enhancing customer value through engagement. By leveraging deep market knowledge and analytical expertise, the position contributes significantly to understanding and navigating the complexities of the global oil market.

1. Content Creation
This role drives the creation of high-value, data-driven insights on China’s refining value chain, refining economics, and policy trends. By generating original research and integrating quantitative models (e.g., refinery planning tools like PIMS) with qualitative analysis, the analyst ensures SP Global Commodity Insights (SPGCI) maintains thought leadership in Asia’s oil markets.
2. Deliverables
The analyst produces key deliverables including refinery margin models, regional refining cost databases, monthly reports, and presentations at industry events. These outputs translate complex market dynamics into clear, actionable insights, enabling clients to optimize refinery operations, benchmark performance, and align strategies with policy and market trends.
3. Customer Implications
By delivering timely, granular insights into China’s oil and refined market, the analyst empowers clients—including refiners, traders, and policymakers—to mitigate risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities. For example, identifying shifts in fuel demand patterns or regulatory incentives helps clients adjust procurement, production, and long-term strategies.

This role directly supports SPGCI’s growth in China and Asia by bridging local expertise with global analytical frameworks. Strengthening China’s refining and oil market services not only boosts regional revenue but also enhances the global fuels and refining service’s competitiveness, particularly as China plays a pivotal role in the global oil market.
