As part of the Global Procurement function of the Straumann Group, this role leads the purchasing function for the Shanghai Campus to ensure the transactional procurement process and local purchasing activities are conducted effectively to ensure the site’s operations performance while supporting global procurement initiatives.
This role reports currently to the Global Category Director – Direct Materials with a dotted reporting line to the Shanghai Site Head. The role will be be part of the site lead team.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and develop the purchasing team for the Shanghai Campus as an agile business partner that continuously enhance the support and collaboration with the site stakeholders while in alignment with the Global Procurement team for globally managed categories of spend (e.g. direct materials, engineering capex…)
Understand and support the purchasing function needed in the dynamics of a growing manufacturing environment in China, with its challenges and opportunities so operational excellence is delivered to the Site Head and its Lead Team with a cost sensitive culture along with a collaborative approach.
Support or drive tendering activities, from negotiations to contracting, if needed to ensure team coverage for the site or during busier times.
1/ Procurement performance, business continuity with scalability
- Manage performance of Shanghai Campus purchasing team so that full and swift support is provided to the local operations from the procurement function. Define, establish and track site kpi including savings as per the global standards.
- Evaluate, monitor and mitigate supply risks. Define and implement risks mitigation actions in alignment with Global Procurement on critical categories globally managed – factoring future growth and scalability – to guarantee business continuity for the operations.
- Ensure early involvement of Procurement in the supply needs definition with stakeholders so that supply of services and goods is performed in a competitive manner while meeting expectations from timelines, quality and costs.
- Take the ownership of the Purchasing Controls from GMP/QMS perspective
2/ Business impact – contribution to EBITDA growth
- Establish appropriate guidelines, policy and procedures in line with the Global Procurement standards, across Shanghai Campus site. Improve local purchasing practices to ensure and increase compliance, process efficiency, digitalization and savings delivery.
- Engage with site Lead Team, departments managers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure support for global or regional category execution is given. Assist the deployment of category strategies at the site as well as corporate Procurement initiatives (digitalization, ESG goals and supplier engagement…).
3/ Procurement process, systems and digitalisation
- Identify and optimize systems or processes that support the purchasing operations.
- Introduce site specific e-catalogues to optimize the transactional aspects (indirect, MRO, PPE…)
- Champion the use and adoption of procurement digital tools: S2C platform (GEP) and supplier onboarding, SAP-Fiori for PR/PO processing, ESG supplier portal (IntegrityNext)…
- Maintain ERP systems to ensure continuous support of the material and service requirements and accuracy of data (master data, vendor master, source list).
- Ensure effective sourcing processes are in place and followed (e.g. tendering and contracting handled by procurement, SRM, supplier performance…). Report and escalate deviations when identified.
- Ensure accuracy and quality of data to support spend analysis, reporting and supplier management
- Drive supplier compliance with the local site Quality team, design and assign KPI and metrics to suppliers with regular monitoring and reporting
- Support the change management process when localizing materials, reflect changes in local QMS and Quality related documents, provide info to Master Data Team
4/ Value capture through supplier management
- Support and deliver all objectives related to Quality, RA and Sustainable Procurement (ESG)
- Manage supplier performance as per site identified metrics, communicate and relay them to suppliers
- Reduce and optimize supplier base where possible
- Ensure efficient and proper execution of Requests for Quotation and creation of Purchase Orders. Drive the realization of savings, supply efficiency, quality, process improvements and track achieved results as per global Procurement standards
- Manage daily requirements and understand future demands of the different corporate functions: perform duties to ensure appropriate service level to end users, communicate with requisitioners and suppliers to clarify operational issues, act as the first point of contact for internal and external claim management.
- Identify savings opportunities for categories not under the control of the Global Procurement team.
Qualifications & requirements:
- Preferred education: Master, MBA academic degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering
- Professional certification: CIPS or CPSM desired
- Minimum 10 years of procurement experience, including at least 5 years in procurement management role (e.g. global or regional procurement category manager) with exposure to global supply chain management, complex strategic sourcing and optimization of procurement processes and standards.
- Experienced negotiator, from tendering to negotiations and contracting in various categories of spend
- Demonstrated performance in working in cross-functional teams or matrix environment, with requisite drive and energy to be successful in delivering a challenging transformation agenda
- Specific experience includes at least one of these: experience with SAP, S2C or P2P- systems, procurement initiatives implementation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels (including technical and operational) and with all functions in English
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed timeframe, in an agile environment
- Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate, explain and report issues or opportunities
- Expert in influencing and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to assess risks associated with supplier and market changes in a regulated environment. Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions.
