JOB SUMMARY
The Director, Project Management, Joint Venture is a strategic leadership role within the Greater China Commercial organization, responsible for driving high-impact initiatives related to MI’s joint venture with Alibaba, across business model innovation, digital transformation, and driving commercial and Loyalty performance. This role will lead cross-functional projects, provide thought leadership, and ensure successful execution of complex, multi-disciplinary programs aligned with Greater China’s commercial priorities. This role is embedded into the Joint Venture organization to carry out Marriott’s business directions and implementations.
The position requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional project management capabilities, and the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups—including senior leadership, regional teams, and global functions.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, hotel management, ecommerce, or related major
- Advanced degree or professional certification in project management or strategy preferred
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in project management, strategy consulting, CRM or channel account managements
- Proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment
- Prior experience in hotel chain experience, digital transformation, or joint venture management highly desirable

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Project Leadership & Execution
- Under the business directions from MI, lead end-to-end project management for complex, cross-functional initiatives related to joint venture, across business model innovation, digital transformation, and driving commercial and Loyalty performance.
- Develop detailed project plans, define scope and objectives, allocate resources, and manage timelines to ensure successful delivery
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain momentum and alignment
- Provide day-to-day leadership and decision-making authority for project teams, ensuring accountability and results
- Timely delivery of project status tracking to MI Leadership.
Strategic Planning & Business Case Development
- Partner with Senior Director, Distribution Strategy & Emerging Channels, and the MI’s commercial leadership team to identify strategic priorities and translate them into actionable project plans
- Conduct market analysis, stakeholder assessments, and feasibility studies to support business case development
- Align initiatives with MI’s broader regional and global strategies, ensuring consistency and scalability to promote MI’s business goal
Joint Venture Management
- Faithfully carry out the directions and requests from MI’s MVP, Commercial, & Senior Director, Distribution Strategy & Emerging Channels, in managing all JV-related activities, including board-approved initiatives and cross-border coordination. Provide pro-active support as necessary.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders across Greater China and global teams to ensure seamless execution of JV projects
- Facilitate communication and alignment between Marriott and JV partners, ensuring mutual understanding of goals, timelines, and deliverables
- Prepare and deliver updates, presentations, and reports for JV board meetings and executive reviews
Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation
- Organize and facilitate strategic meetings under MI’s Senior Director, Distribution Strategy & Emerging Channels’ leadership, including agenda setting, content development, and coordination with relevant business units
- Build strong relationships across disciplines (e.g., HR, Finance, Loyalty, Operations) to ensure cross-functional collaboration and buy-in
- Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and timely updates
Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Establish and manage systems for tracking project milestones, budgets, and KPIs across all major initiatives
- Provide regular updates and insights to senior leadership, highlighting progress, risks, and opportunities
- Ensure data-driven decision-making through robust analysis and reporting frameworks
