Job Description
This leadership position, part of the China Materials Group leadership team, sets the strategic direction for Avery Dennison’s North Asia procurement portfolio. The role involves developing and managing organizational structures and processes to achieve sustained cost advantages. Additionally, it requires active participation in formulating procurement strategies that align with both regional and global business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Management and Development:
Provide training and growth opportunities to staff, establish and communicate annual objectives, and maintain the Global Performance Management System with regular feedback.
Attract, retain, and develop high-potential talent, fostering a diverse and mobile workforce.
Uphold and promote the company’s Code of Business Ethics, Values, and Leadership Principles.
Conduct performance reviews, promotions, and terminations as needed.
Manage staff training and development, assess personnel needs, assign tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure consistent application of organizational policies.
Act as a role model and change agent within the team.
Encourage teamwork to achieve individual and business targets.
Identify and nurture high-caliber talent for career advancement.
Lead employee survey initiatives and support efforts for improvement.
Strategic Spend Management :
Develop Purchasing Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and Measures (OGSM) for North Asia, aligned with global business strategies.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the China Leadership team to develop and execute procurement strategies that support long-term business objectives.
Establish and communicate inflation/deflation targets throughout the business.
Implement best practices in strategic sourcing, cost modeling, and supplier relationship management to meet local and global business needs.
Maintain effective communication between Purchasing and R&D, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain.
Actively engage in the Global Material Procurement Leadership Team to develop and implement strategies that balance regional and global requirements.
Champion Best Cost Country (BCC) sourcing initiatives for NAP-based suppliers and promote these suppliers to global standards.
Collaborate with the global team to develop and execute supplier roadmaps and multi-generation product plans based on market and supplier analysis (with Marketing and R&D).
Lead the implementation of ELS principles to drive efficiency and best practices across the organization.
Cost Competitive Advantage:
Develop and implement long-term material strategies to gain competitive advantages in materials for China and leverage global scale.
Identify and qualify alternative suppliers and materials.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and rebates using strategic sourcing processes and tools.
Conduct monthly/quarterly price negotiations with regional and local suppliers.
Enhance free cash flow using supplier finance, BAD consumption, and improvements in payment/commercial terms.
Align regional supplier volume allocations with global procurement strategies.
Ensure transparency in stakeholder-supplier activities, including problem-solving and new product development.
Supplier Relationship Management:
Conduct formal Supplier Relationship Management reviews for regional suppliers.
Develop Supplier Account Plans, including Annual Business Reviews, key account issues, and communicate them to stakeholders.
Use the Global Supplier Scorecard to drive supplier performance reviews and corrective actions.
Implement supply and supplier risk management actions and resolve supplier quality issues.
Manage supplier relationships, drive productivity improvements, and implement best practices in strategic sourcing, cost modeling, supplier relationship development, and total cost of ownership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
10+ years of purchasing or related experience with strategic leadership, strategic sourcing, negotiation, and commercial agreements.
Experience in global procurement and leadership.
Advanced-level purchasing skills with a broad experience base.
Experience in collaborating with cross-regional & global teams or initiatives. Strong collaboration skills.
Proven team management and development skills.
Good understanding and usage of procurement-related data analytics tools.
Strong oral and written communication ( including English) and project management skills.
Credibility and influence at senior levels.
Eagerness to contribute to a global leadership team.
