Job Description
The Director, Accounting - APAC will report to the Global Operations Controller and will be based in Shanghai. This position will own the regional operational accounting for our sites/locations based in the Asia Pacific region, including statutory reporting and compliance. The Director, Accounting - APAC will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger for our Asia Pacific region, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, and managing and developing the operations accounting that supports the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the accounting records for each site/entity in our Asia Pacific region is maintained accurately.
- Oversee accounting for all consolidated subsidiaries in the APAC region.
- Ensure that the books for each site/entity in our Asia Pacific region are closed on time and accurately to support the global financial close process.
- Ensure that relevant account reconciliations are completed and reviewed timely and accurately.
- Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to enhance existing processes.
- Drive automation of manual processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes.
- Ensure controls are implemented and executed to support the company’s SOX procedures.
- Oversee the compliance and local statutory and audit requirements for the Asia Pacific region.
- Work collaboratively with members of the accounting team, as well as members from other teams in discharging your responsibilities.
- Develop and support your team through coaching and mentoring to become better accounting professionals.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by implementing related action plans.
- Engage with auditors as needed and address any audit-related queries promptly and accurately.
Qualifications
Must haves:
- 5+ years of experience as a leader in operational accounting (preferably in a controller capacity) in a medium-to-large public company based in China.
- Experience in handling operational accounting with hardware and manufacturing (semiconductor preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Experience managing teams across geographies/remote locations.
- Experience reporting to a US parent company.
- Strong at execution, follow-up and attention to detail.
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred requirements
- Experience managing teams of 10+ individuals.
- Experience working on SAP S/4 HANA and tools like Blackline, will be a plus.
- Proven track record of motivating teams to perform at a high standard.
- Proven track record of successfully hiring and building high performing teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting.
- CPA, Chartered Accountant or equivalent.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.
