JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose
Assist the China Studies Director and China Engagement Programs across the whole school in the completion of the duties associated with delivering the China Studies programs and China Engagement curriculum and projects across the whole school.
Guidance: WAB China Engagement Core Values, China Studies Job Descriptions and Staff Handbook.
Objectives: Timely and effective carry out and communicate China Studies and China Engagement programs in all interactions with WAB community.
Operating Network
The China Studies assistant is responsible to the China Studies Director.
External: Both WAB and local communities
Internal: Students, WAB Employees, Parents, etc.
Main Responsibilities
Communication
Assist the China Studies Director in building the WS China Engagement education resource center including graphic designs and multi-media promotion for publications, exhibition and displays.
Assist the China Studies Director in promoting the China Engagement with a focus on traditional Chinese culture and philosophy.
Assist the China Studies Director in coordinating day trips, residential trips, on campus workshops, school China Engagement events, local communities links and service learning projects.
Teamwork, Service Excellence
Provide full administrative support in the organization for China Engagement events such as Chinese New Year Celebration, China Studies Trip Presentations, parent culture workshops, Open House, Chinese for Staff, etc.
Lead and accompany WAB teachers and students on field trips into the local communities for both day trips and residential trips.
Communication, Attention to Detail
Work with grade levels leaders in trip planning, dry runs and on campus workshops, China Studies field trips set up with all agencies and experts, follow up with trip forms and finance applications for funds, SOS forms, etc.
Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration, Technical Expertise, Planning & Initiative, Attention to Detail
Assist in administration of WAB's information in the China Engagement system. This includes processing all trip information, risk assessment, taking trips leaders on dry runs, bringing Chines experts on campus for planning meetings with grade level or singe subject teachers, etc.
Service Excellence
Design and manage on campus China Engagement exhibitions, displays and multi-media presentations.
Writing special reports on various activities, shooting and producing promotional videos, and designing and producing posters for various exhibitions.
Manage the trip planning and feedback for students trips and on campus workshops.
Provide other general administrative duties assigned by China Studies Director and Trip Leaders or other members of the grade level leaders team.
Communication, T&C, WAB Fit, Problem Solving, Technical Expertise, Attention to Detail,
Support all trip logistics for the grade levels, single subject teachers and finance department as well as bus department.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience:
Qualifications:
- At least college and university degree, Master Degree is a plus.
- Deep understanding of Traditional Chinese culture and philosophy is a plus
- Cross-culture experience and overseas education background is a plus
- Language Proficiency: Excellent language skills in both English and Chinese, encompassing oral and written communication
- Translation Abilities: Capable of providing simultaneous translation (English and Chinese) during workshops, presentations and translating texts accurately and quickly.
- Graphic Design and Multimedia Skills: Background and proficiency in graphic design and multimedia is essential.
Experience:
- Bilingual ability and multicultural experience in education is a plus
- Proven experience in graphic design and multimedia; related to international school education is a plus
- A sound understanding of the environment in an international education organization
- The ideal candidate will be proficient in leading workshops focused on traditional Chinese culture, conducting all sessions in English. Responsibilities include designing engaging workshop content, facilitating interactive learning experiences, and promoting cultural appreciation among participants
Skills and abilities:
- Traditional Chinese philosophy knowledge and working experience, with a specialized background in traditional Chinese culture, including Chinese painting, Chinese Gongfu, and Chinese musical instruments.
- Excellent skills in graphic design and multi-media presentations, can design and set up exhibitions
- Establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents
- Good command of both oral and written English and Chinese
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Honesty and reliability, responsible, collaborative and committed
- Good computer skills using Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and graphic design/muti-media
- Possess a high level of organization abilities (detail-oriented)
- Work independently and meet deadlines

- Performs under pressure and solve problems independently in a timely fashion
- Flexibility to work long hours and attend overnight trips around China
