Who We Are
The Lead Discovery (LD) is a cross-modality function within the China Innovation Center of Roche (CICoR), supporting both small molecule research and antibody discovery. We deliver leading edge science to drive the success of CICoR’s early discovery research activities through strong expertise in lead identification and lead optimization - including sample logistics, high throughput screening, protein science, biophysical methods, biochemical and cell-based assays, and X-ray/CryoEM biostructures. Our breadth of capabilities further enables or drives innovative approaches for drug discovery.
This Opportunity
Scientist/Senior Scientist in Lead Discovery
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist/senior scientist to join Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology group in CICoR Lead Discovery. The title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and execution of lead identification strategies in close collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams. You will proactively shape and implement innovative approaches that align with project goals and enable the successful progression of CICoR’s discovery portfolio. You will independently design and optimize novel biochemical and cell-based assays, and contribute to all stages of early drug discovery, from assay development and screening to hit-to-lead and lead optimization. You will also be responsible for data analysis, interpretation and clear communication of results with project teams.
Principle Roles & Responsibilities
Drive the development and execution of lead identification strategies as the LD lead for assigned projects, collaborating closely with project teams.
Plan, design, conduct and supervise research programs/technology programs or experimental strategies with the LD and CICoR portfolio goals.
Develop and implement novel biochemical, cell-based assays, and Mode-of-Action (MoA) studies for portfolio projects.
Critically analyze, interpret results and present results within and outside LD.
Lead and oversee collaborations with external partners (e.g., CROs) as required.
Coordinate cross-functional efforts to meet near-term and long-term project goals.
Mentor, supervise, and train junior colleagues to ensure scientific rigor and high productivity.
Maintain rigorous and accurate experimental records in accordance with Roche standards.
Provide expert input, explore and implement the cutting-edge technologies or platforms to advance lead discovery.
Who You Are
Candidates must have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, and experience in early drug discovery. The successful candidate will have excellent technical skills, communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related discipline.
At least 3 years of relevant professional or industrial experience in research or drug discovery (industrial experience preferred).
Strong scientific foundation in cell biology, molecular biology, and/or enzymology.
Demonstrated independent thinking, problem solving and creativity in research programs.
Hands-on experience in assay development, hit identification, and hit qualification.
Experience in early drug discovery process and screening strategy design is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skill in English; strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
