If you are Senior Mechanical Development Engineer, looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in Xi'an, you will r esponsible for stable delivery of mechanical design and validation of Copeland thermostats, HVAC controls, and cold chain products across new product development (NPD), sustaining, and research initiatives. Coordinates technical planning, risk mitigation, and cross-functional integration to meet functional, cost, quality, and schedule targets.
AS SENIOR MECHANICAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER,YOU WILL:
- Lead mechanical design efforts, applying engineering expertise and best practices to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions aligned with overall product strategies.
- Drive technical execution for assigned modules, including material selection, design approach, and validation methods under guidance from lead engineers.
- Perform detailed tolerance analyses, GD&T, and dimensional stack-ups to ensure subsystem performance, fit, and production readiness.
- Conduct mechanical validation through simulations (FEA), prototype testing, and detailed data analysis; recommend design improvements based on results.
- Implement DFM/DFA/DFX principles throughout design phases, actively contributing to yield optimization, cost control, and robustness improvements.
- Collaborate closely with electronics, software, and industrial design teams to achieve integrated, system-level solutions and enhanced product performance.
- Identify and resolve mechanical issues encountered during prototype, pilot builds, and initial mass production phases through effective root cause analysis.
- Participate in cross-functional discussions with global teams to align on design approaches, product requirements, and regional considerations.
- Support enhancement of mechanical design workflows and documentation standards, contributing to continuous process and quality improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and sharing expertise to build team capability.
- Evaluate design trade-offs and cost implications, offering recommendations to improve product competitiveness during early-stage development.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring timely and high-quality execution in alignment with team objectives, while demonstrating flexibility to support shifting priorities and broader organizational goals.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in mechanical design and development of electromechanical products, preferably within HVAC, appliances, or related industries.
- Proven track record of delivering mechanical designs from concept to mass production, supporting cross-functional and global collaboration.
- Solid understanding of HVAC product requirements, industry standards, and compliance documentation practices.
- Strong practical experience designing plastic and metal components, including injection molding, die casting, stamping, and sheet metal forming processes.
- Proficient in tolerance analysis, GD&T, and 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred); experience with PLM/PDM systems such as Teamcenter is advantageous.
- Experience in implementing DFM/DFA principles, design validation processes, and collaborating effectively with electronic and industrial design teams.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and joining techniques including ultrasonic welding, SMT, gluing, and various surface finishing methods.
- Ability to translate system-level and customer requirements into detailed component-level design specifications.
- Hands-on prototyping skills and practical familiarity with common workshop tools and measurement instruments.
- Demonstrated ability in conducting root cause analysis and problem-solving, contributing actively to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience communicating and coordinating with international suppliers and teams across different time zones.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools for technical documentation and reporting; basic understanding of energy modeling and sustainable product design is beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, capable of clearly conveying technical information and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Familiarity with technical program management or project coordination is a plus.
- Basic understanding of electronics engineering fundamentals and interconnect technologies is an advantage.
