Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) globally. As a global leader in security risk management principles, UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. To this end, the work of the Department is aligned under a clear mission, to enable the United Nations system programme activities through trusted security leadership and solutions. This internship opportunity is located in the UNDSS field office based in Beijing. The duration of the internship is for a period of around four (4) months, till 31 Dec 2025. The internship is full-time and in-person; interns work five days (35 hours or more) per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. UNDSS is looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals with skills to work with UNDSS to enable UNSMS programmes in the field. Within assigned authority, the intern will perform the following duties: • Assist in collecting information for the assessments, monthly snapshot and flash reports. • Assist in conducting the Physical Security Assessments for UNSMS premises. • Assist in coordinating with the guard force at the UNSMS premises. • Assist in drafting administrative tasks such travel arrangements, logistics inventory. • Provide translation in the meeting with the Host Government authorities. • Take meeting minutes during meeting when required. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
The applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams. Applicants must be Familiarity with media platforms and communication tools with basic understanding of social media trends and usage. Knowledge of managing or creating content for social media channels. And, using photography software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom). A driver license is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) and Chinese (both oral and written) is required.
