Camera Validation Engineer Responsibilities
- Directly contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, write reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results
- Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts
- Work with a large team
- Help identify long-term research goals as well as intermediate milestones
- Prioritize research that can be applied to Meta's product development
- Mentor other team members. Play a significant role in healthy cross-functional collaboration
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Imaging Science, Color Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- 2+ years of experience in image and video quality testing, including metrics, algorithms, and evaluation methods for benchmarking or camera characterization (sensor, lens, module, and device)
- Hands-on experience in developing, implementing, and troubleshooting image quality test infrastructure, including hardware, test charts, software, automation, opto-mechanical components, motion control stages, precision alignment components, optical filters (e.g., bandpass, IR cut-off), and lenses
- Proficiency in using evaluation platforms such as DXO, Imatest, and IQ Analyzer
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ for operating lab systems, implementing algorithms, automating lab processes, and handling data collection and analysis
- Knowledge of camera module fabrication, including how component performance and assembly processes impact overall camera performance
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in high-volume production and test environments
- Experience with lens metrology tools such as TriOptics ImageMaster HR, OptiCentric, Pro9/Pro10, as well as optical system metrology techniques, including colorimetry, photoradiometry, integrating spheres, and spectrophotometry
- Demonstrated experience in sensors and optics, including their evaluation methodologies
- Proficiency in statistical data analysis and familiarity with camera data analysis methodologies, including JMP
- Hands-on industry experience with Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) products
- Experience in lens and opto-mechanical design, including tolerance analysis and stray light evaluation
- Practical experience in prototyping with macro-scale imaging test targets, interfacing fixtures for sensor devices, and integrating off-the-shelf optomechanical components (e.g., Thorlabs, Edmund, Newport)
